Five For Friday: Questions with Erin of Plus Sized Pretty

It's Friday (woo-hoo!) and I've got an awesome "Five For Friday" post to share. I asked 5 questions to my favorite redheaded Canadian blogger friend, Erin. She's got an awesome style, she posts the cutest DIY's, and she can preach about body positivity and other great issues like nobody's business. Read on to find out more about this girl!

1. What was your blog like when you first started blogging and how has it changed since then?
Well when I first started I was a lot more CONSISTENT. Lately I have been having a really hard time finding motivation. It's a weird thing, I look back on how I used to blog regularly and I love being able to
look back at my life, and i'm all like "Thanks so much for blogging, past Erin. Present Erin really appreciates it! Then, Future Erin is like "Hey Present Erin, get your act together and keep blogging!" But, when I do get around to blogging, I find myself a lot more open. I've always turned to the internet to find likeminded people to share my story with, I had a livejournal and a myspace back in the day, and it's a great way for someone super shy and socially awkward like me to put myself out there and meet new people. ;)

2. What is one thing most people would be shocked to know about you?
That i've never had a boyfriend. I mean, it shocks me that some man hasn't scooped up all this flawlessness yet...

3. How has blogging changed you?
It's definitely helped me be more confident. Starting my blog was really when I started my fat acceptance journey. Blogging brought me to a wonderful community of similar bodied women to share in each
others stories, and sense of style with. I live in a very image obsessed, thin ideal city, and at times I feel like I am the only fat person when I look around. Then I go online, and I remember, i'm not alone. Finding this community gave me so much confidence in accepting my body and my size for exactly what it is. Blogging has made me a fat acceptance advocate, which is something I feel really strongly about.

4. As an avid t.v. watcher, and with new shows rolling out for the season, what show would you say is having the biggest influence on your life right now? How so?
Definitely "The Mindy Project". I've long iodized Mindy Kaling (the writer, star, creator of the show). I loved The Office in it's early seasons, and she's written some of my favorite episodes- "The Dundies", "The Injury", "Diwali". I was an avid reader of her blog "Things I've Bought That I Love", and I absolutely loved her book, "Is Everyone Hanging out Without Me? And Other Concerns". She's funny, relatable, and a total inspiration. So now that's she's created a show which she stars in, writes in, and created, well, that is just too much. What I love so much about the show is that it's a reflection of the Mindy i've got to know from her blog and her book, which is someone that could totally be my best friend. She's a realistic portrayal of the kind of person that I am and who I associate with. I think what I love about her most is the line that "In college, everything changed. No more rules...I could watch romantic comedies whenever I wanted!" Because that's the kind of person I am. I'd rather be watching my favorite tv shows than out partying ANY night. As an aspiring tv writer, it excites me so much to see how much she has accomplished for not only women in the industry, but women of colour. I love Mindy Kaling!

5. What has been the greatest thing you've learned from blogging?
As cheesy as this sounds, to be myself. As I mentioned before, as a teen, I found that going online was the only way I could let my personality come through. I was able to make friends with my interests that I couldn't find in my hell hole of a city I was raised in, and it helped me to gain confidence. Where I am in my life now, majoring in Women's Studies in college, really mirrors a lot of what I do on my blog. I've been able to bring my fat advocacy to the "real world" in my classes, having gained the confidence from putting myself out there
online and receiving such amazing feedback, and knowing there is a community of support out there.
